Whey protein itself has the highest biological value (BV) of any known protein. A whey blend is essentially a blend of both whey protein concentrate (WPC) and whey protein isolate (WPI). Whey isolate contains slightly more protein per serving than whey concentrate, and is also lower in fat and lactose. So you may be thinking why not use a pure isolate then? Well a pure whey isolate product certainly has its place, however a blend of whey isolate and concentrate is a more cost effective way of getting high quality protein to the muscles quickly. The inclusion of whey protein concentrate helps manufacturers to keep the cost of whey blends down, whilst still delivering a very high quality protein that can be used at any time of the day. Because whey blends are 'fast release' they are most effective when the body is craving protein quickly, such as immediately after a workout or first thing in the morning. However, the the inclusion of whey concentrate does slow down absorbtion slightly, so whey blends are versatile in that they can be used at other time of the day, elevating protein synthesis over a short period of time. | ||
