Both whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate are produced using the same ultra filtration techniques. However during this ultra filtration, it is possible to vary the amount of filtration processes the whey protein passes through. Whey protein isolate undergoes more of these filtration processes and so is 'purer' than whey protein concentrate. This superior purity means that whey protein isolate is very fast absorbing, and is thus an ideal post-workout drink. This added purity does make whey isolate more expensive due to the extra time and cost it takes to produce.
